"An Aztec-inspired short film about immigration."
NOTE: Spoilers. And for the passwords, type: artstation
I loved getting to work on a film so artistic and thoughtful. Many shots were filmed on a RED helium in 8K, which proved hard to manage on a laptop (a few shots were on a Blackmagic camera in 4K). Regardless, I managed to finish all the shots within a couple weeks.
The two main effects I created throughout the movie are:
1. The moon, enlarged for effect in many shots. I used NASA images and composited them into After Effects.
2. The wall. I modeled, shaded and rendered it in Blender. I composited in After Effects, using various techniques of motion and camera tracking, or corner pinning. To mask the wall out from foreground elements, I used a mixture of luminance mattes and keys as well as manual roto masks.
